so I'm minding my own business and I am doing the Christian thing by reading my devotions one afternoon after giving Jeffrey lunch. He finishes his lunch and as I'm fulfilling my duties he is watching cartoons and out of the blue he says... "daddy I'm hungry!" I have no doubt that he is a growing boy and he needs nourishment but when I asked him why he was hungry... his reply was "I'm bored". ding! ding! it hit me all of a sudden that I have been setting a bad example for him and he thought that he was hungry because he was bored but in reality he was probably hungry for some attention from me which i wasn't giving him at the time. Then it dawned on me that if i really want to set a good example as a follower of Christ then I need to make it a priority to feed him what he is really hungry for and spend quality time with him. The words of Jesus remind me of this when he fed the five thousand people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. The crowd had followed Jesus and they were hungry but the disciples suggested that they send the crowd away. Jesus' response... "give them something to eat"... and then he blessed the very little food they had and it was enough for everyone! They were hungry... but for what? I am challenged to remember these words when I get discouraged and I feel like I am not doing enough for my family or for those in my ministry. Christ simply says "give them something to eat" and he will bless it. So i challenge you, give your family "something to eat" and let God bless it! Nourish their needs, and you'll be amazed!
